Building Role Party Game
As I crack open my 3rd energy drink at 9PM on a Wednesday, I’m reflecting on this surge of nostalgia. I haven’t been this irresponsible to my body since college.
But I feel so excited to work on my project. For years, I’ve floozied around my interests…But finally, I found the hidden treasure that makes my 3rd energy drink of the day worth it.
I don’t know whether the game will flop or not. I’m unsure if what I’m building is closer to a sand castle or a colliseum. But I enjoy every coding session either way.
As I work, I catch echoes of my grandfather tinkering in his digital dungeon all night. And in that very same dungeon, echoes of a childhood playing Runescape with my brothers, cousins, and grandpa.
With Grandpa now being in his older years, it’s not lost on me how precious each hour of our life is. Now that I’ve now dedicated 300+ hours on this project and hopefully many more to come…I hope everybody finds a use of their hours so enriching as this.
I dedicate this work to my Übermensch of an older brother. Also to my younger brother, my grandfather, and my cousins.
Now my wife’s asleep upstairs, pregnant. And I can’t wait to keep that fun alive for generations like you did, Grandpa.
No matter the outcome, this project is my art piece to honor of side-quests shared with loved ones. When zooming out across a lifetime of ups and downs, these small moments of comradery, competition, and laughs are some of the moments worth the most.
I hope this game helps people to have more of those.
